Bella Cat Rocks the Atomic Rooster: January 22, 2017

On Sunday January 22nd, I took my Pentax K-3II and SMC Pentax-FA 50mm f:1.4 to see how it performed in low light, My old Pentax ✩istD was not a good low-light high ISO camera. I shot mostly at ISO:3200.

I did crank the ISO way up on this frame.

ISO:51200, 1/1600s f:4.0, Pentax K-3 II, SCM Pentax-FA 50mm f:1.4 prime. Reminds me of Pushed High Speed Ektachrome slide film on the 1970’s.

Afternoon project

I was toying with the nice natural light that my living room window has. So I grabbed my Pentax *istD with the SMC Pentax-FA 50mm f:1.4 lens and Manfrotto tripod. I ended up with the classical 1/125 second @ f:5.6 portrait setting on these self-portraits.

I decided to try Topaz Lab’s Details plugin on this one. For the new hyper-realistic effect.

Very old portrait study.

Back in 1969-70  I was introduced to the art & science of photography. Maurice Conklin was my mentor, he brought me into the darkroom where I first saw the magic under the amber light of a shiny white piece of paper soaking in a clear liquid magically forming an image.

I admit at times I miss the darkroom, as I spent 30 years working in them.  Photoshop has it’s own magic, but in a chemical darkroom you felt like an alchemist!

Maurice was an Engineer for Defense Research, and was a long time member of the Camera Club of Ottawa.

In 1970 he introduced me to the CCO, and I have been a member ever since.

Sarah: October 18, 2011

I had a test shoot session Tuesday October 18, 2011 with the lovely Sarah.  Here are some of my favourites.

Sarah with selective colour. I decided to keep her stunning green eyes in a B&W conversion.

B&W High-Key, Photoshop CS2 conversion.

The original colour version.

Shot with three Elinchrom strobes  36″ softbox on each. Two at 45° above and to the side of the camera, one directly above as a hairlight.

Why do I photograph models, the Pretty Woman? A lifetime ago I was a police forensic photo tech, I saw horrible and ugly images. Now I take images I want to see, and to be frank, I like attractive women.
